The "Sun Month", (Old Norse: "Sólmānuður"), was the Norse summer month before the current Christian calendar was adopted. It marked the time period from what is now mid June to what is now mid July. The Christians (ie. Pope Gregor) chose to let their calendar months start in the middle of our (Norse) months.
