The "Ginnungagap" is a concept from Norse mythology. Before the creation of the cosmos there was a hot fiery space, and an icy cold space, both stretching out indefinitely. In-between these two spaces was a void, a massive void. That void is where all life and all worlds were created. The name of that void is "Ginnungagap". It means something akin to "massive void".
